Babies - Toddlers - Pre-School
Located in a large purpose-built setting with outdoor deck accessed from all the rooms, Little Cubs Academy Greenwich is just a stone’s throw from Maze Hill station, and only 5 minutes’ walk from Greenwich Peninsula and The River Gardens. The nursery and pre-school is open from 7.30am to 6pm, 51 weeks a year for children from 3 months to 5 years of age. The setting became a Little Cubs Academy in 2019, and as well as purchasing brand new toys, equipment and educational resources, it was completely refurbished with natural, neutral materials and colours to create a calm, warm environment, a purpose built sensory room for the under 3’s, and amazing free-flow areas for all age groups .
The nursery and pre-school’s outside area features a planting and growing area, mud kitchen and sand boxes. We like to give our children the broadest range of experiences with the best quality providers, so alongside our programme of activities linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), we also offer a very diverse selection of all-inclusive activities such as forest school, cooking, yoga, sport, French, drama, music, dance classes, PE, and regular visits to local woodland, Greenwich Deer Park, and Mudchute Farm, one of the biggest inner-city farms in Europe.

At Little Cubs Academy we feel it’s important to sometimes look backwards and to not always view looking forwards, always innovating is not the sole route to success. As well as creating engaging environments that teach and promote:
We fundamentally believe that traditional teaching methods paired with core values of love, care, compassion, honesty, equality, and nurture, should be at the heart of everything that we do.
Children are grouped into rooms according to their age, each with experienced staff and daily routines and activities designed around their needs and interests:
3 to 15 months: Following a structured yet flexible routine, our staff focus on providing love, cuddles, and sensory/tactile play.
15 months to 2 years: Helping to build confidence, make connections and develop new skills, we provide plenty of opportunities for messy and outdoor play.
2 to 3 years: Fresh air and outdoor play including gardening, ball games, and bikes/trikes are a focus, as well as helping to grow children’s developing senses and interaction skills.
3 to 5 years: Supporting children’s learning in a planned, yet play-based environment, we help build confidence, self-assurance, and respect for others so that children are armed with the skills and knowledge for their next step.
The staffing team is led by Head Teacher Ela Tayfur, who has over 10 years of experience in the nursery sector. Ela has established amazing relationships with local parents and children, running nurseries and pre-schools throughout the community for much of her career.
Emily Quee supports Ela as the Deputy Head Teacher, she is also the room leader in the Lion Cubs Room, and she oversees the pre-school. Emily is very passionate about nature, and is currently training to be a fully qualified forest school teacher.
