Babies - Toddlers - Pre-School
Housed in two spacious converted houses with a large garden and terrace, Little Cubs Academy Honor Oak is 2 minutes’ walk from Honor Oak station, and only a 5 minute drive from Forest Hill, Dulwich and Crofton Park. The nursery and pre-school is open from 8am to 6pm, 51 weeks a year, for children from 3 months to 5 years of age. The setting became a Little Cubs Academy in 2018, and as well as purchasing brand new toys, equipment and educational resources, it was completely refurbished with natural, neutral materials and colours to create a calm, warm environment.
The nursery and pre-school’s outside area features a planting and growing area, a mud kitchen and a reading room where children can relax on a bean bag and enjoy their favourite book in a cosy environment. We like to give our children the broadest range of experiences with the best quality providers, so alongside our programme of activities linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), we also offer a very diverse selection of all-inclusive activities like forest school, cooking, yoga, football, French, drama, music, dance classes and PE.

At Little Cubs Academy we feel it’s important to not always look forwards and to sometimes look backwards. Always striving to innovate is not the sole route to success. As well as creating engaging environments that teach and promote:
We fundamentally believe that traditional teaching methods paired with core values of love, care, compassion, honesty, equality, and nurture, should be at the heart of everything that we do.
Children are grouped into rooms according to their age, each with experienced staff and daily routines and activities designed around their needs and interests:
3 to 15 months: Following a structured yet flexible routine, our staff focus on providing love, cuddles, and sensory/tactile play.
15 months to 2 years: Helping to build confidence, make connections and develop new skills, we provide plenty of opportunities for messy and outdoor play.
2 to 3 years: Fresh air and outdoor play including gardening, ball games, and bikes/trikes are a focus, as well as helping to grow children’s developing senses and interaction skills.
3 to 5 years: Supporting children’s learning in a planned, yet play-based environment, we help build confidence, self-assurance, and respect for others so that children are armed with the skills and knowledge for their next step.
The staffing team is led by Head Teacher Jo Pitt who has over 20 years of experience working in nurseries and pre-schools at all levels. Jo previously co-founded and managed a nursery on a farm in Shropshire, and is currently training to be a fully qualified forest school teacher.
Amii Bakewell supports Jo as the Deputy Head Teacher, she is also the Lion Cubs Room Leader. She has decades of experience working in the early years sector and has children of her own.
